Ottumwa man arrested in Charles City after car chase that results in ‘several patrol cars’ damaged

An Ottouma man was arrested on multiple charges after refusing to pull over to a traffic stop – which resulted in a multiple-car chase with the Charles City Police Department on May 11th.

The man, 22-year-old Tylor Rooney, was pulled over by the CCPD at around 2 p.m. on the 900 Block of North Grand Avenue. Rooney driving a 2000 Ford Escort refused to pull over and a pursuit ensued.

The CCPD and Floyd County Sheriff’s deputies chased Rooney around the north end of Charles City. At the intersection of 13th Avenue and Cleveland Avenue, the driver lost control of his vehicle and hit a phone junction box. Afterwards, Rooney’s vehicle struck several patrol cars who were in pursuit.

Rooney was finally taken into custody on the 1800 block of Cleveland Avenue.

He was charged with 6 counts of stop sign violations, driving while suspended, operating a non registered vehicle, no proof of insurance, operating while intoxicated, eluding police officers, assault involving a police officer, criminal mischief, and failure to maintain control – multiple other charges are pending.
