Charles City YMCA talks swimming lessons, reservations, and rec/lap swim

Suddenly, the YMCA has become one of the only pools in the area where someone can get their children swimming lessons – and to swim with a lifeguard for that matter. After the Lion’s Field Pool was announced as closed for the 2020 season, KCHANews called Charles City YMCA Director Lance Lasher to get an update on their pool situation.

On May 19th, Lasher said the pool is closed at least through May 27th – though, on May 20th, Reynolds announced Iowa pools could open for lap swim and lessons only.

Lasher can envision a scenario where the outdoor pool’s closing could increase demand for the YMCA’s swimming lessons and pool in general.

Overall, if children flock to the YMCA pool the summer and the 10-person protocol is still active, Lasher says they would think about creating a reservation system.

Lasher says rec swimming is possible this summer as long as the CDC rules on social gatherings are loosened.
