Gov. Reynolds gave the go-ahead for swimming pools to resume lap swim and swimming lessons today, Days before this announcement, the Charles City Lions Field Pool, following a trend in the state, decided the pool would not open for the entire extent of 2020. The Parks and Recreation Department cited safety concerns as well as lifeguard shortages.
New Hampton’s Park and Rec Department is still busy counting their eggs – as they put out a statement on Wednesday assuring the public that a decision on the pool’s future would be made very soon:
“While we know the Governor just stated that Pools can open beginning Friday for Lap Swimming and Swimming Lessons ONLY. We wanted to reach out and let you know that we will be taking our time making a decision on the Pool, we do not take this situation lightly and need to think about what is best to help keep our community healthy, what is realistic and what is not, as well as many other factors. Please continue to be patient with us as we “swim” through this uncharted territory. As soon as we have made decisions, we will make an official announcement. THANK YOU!”
If the decision is made to open late for the year, the pool will still need upwards of 3 weeks to get fully prepared for the new protocols and safety concerns.
