Be the Bridge – Charles City June 17th meeting to strive for ‘racial harmony’

Charles City Councilman Phillip Knighten believes conversations between people of all races need to be conducted in the coming weeks. That is why on June 17th at 6pm (event location: 1948 Windfall Ave, Charles City, IA 50616-8851), Be the Bridge – Charles City will be holding an open meeting to discuss race relations in the area and country. Be the Bridge is a ‘racial reconciliation group designed to create unity, peace and love in our city.  It is a space for conversation that helps to tear down racial barriers.’

Knighten says ‘Be the Bridge’ is not a political group and invites anybody, even those that might disagree with him personally, to come and discuss the issues.

Knighten believes racial relations in Charles City are ‘pretty decent’ but notices ignorance and bias swirling around certain circles in the area – noting rumors about June 5th’s candlelight vigil for George Floyd in Central Park.

During the June 17th meeting and beyond, Knighten hopes ‘Be the Bridge’ can strive to create racial harmony in Charles City.
