Unemployment claims in Iowa steadying off

Unemployment has drastically evened out over the last couple of weeks in Iowa.

The number of initial claims in Iowa, filed between Sunday, May 31, and Saturday, June 6, was 10,112. The number of continuing weekly unemployment claims for May 31-June 6 was 159,966, down 2,596 from the previous week. 

Unemployment insurance benefit payments totaled $40,515,869.87 for the week of May 31- June 6. The following industries had the most claims: 

  • Manufacturing (2,080)
  • Industry Not Available – Self-employed, Independent Contractors, etc. (1,421)
  • Health Care & Social Assistance (1,010)
  • Education Services (722)
  • Accommodation & Food Services (693)

A total of $99,184,800 in Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) benefits was paid during the week of May 31-June 6, 2020.

A total of $5,963,233 was paid in Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) benefits during the week of May 31-June 6, 2020.

A total of $3,715,715 in benefits has been paid in Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) benefits for the week of May 31-June 6, 2020.
