Riceville student duo wins ‘High School Fishing National Championship’

Riceville students Lawson Losee and Kooper Tweite went to La Crosse, Wisconsin this last week and won the High School Fishing National Championship – no, really.

Out of 312 teams from all over the country, Losee and Tweite are national champions and brought home $10,000 in scholarship money.

On an even more exciting note, the tournament that the Riceville boys won will be televised on the Outdoor Channel or ESPN2 later this year.

According to Superintendent of Riceville Barb Schwamman, after they won they returned to town to everyone loudly celebrating their success.

The duo claimed the victory with a 30-pound, 4-ounce three-day total weight.
