The Charles City 2020 Seniors got their public commencement ceremony on Sunday. The weather was clear and cool – Comet Field’s track held 90-plus chairs set up to house students at a 6-foot social distance – and it was the first time this ceremony had been held outside in recent memory.
Superintendent Mike Fisher opened the event by pleading with the graduating seniors to become empathetic adults. Adults with the ability to think of others first and themselves later.
Senior Nathan Schultz was chosen by his class to give the only senior address of the night. Schultz focused on the odd nature of the 2020 year. He joked about the minor troubles the class had gone through such as narrowly missing the opportunity to attend the newly constructed Charles City Middle School. Overall, he preached the importance of being uncomfortable.
