Charles City’s ‘Water Quality Initiative Project’ to troubleshoot local storm water issues

Charles City hired a new Watershed Coordinator in the past year named Doug Johnson – and from there, the water quality projects started to flood in. This year, Johnson has focused his efforts on talking to local farmers and landowners on how to develop the best management practices for their property.

Now, the city has received a grant from the Iowa Department of Stewardship to troubleshoot storm water issues in the county. Johnson and City Administrator Steve Diers will be working closely to use the extent of the $100,000 in grant money to patch storm water problems at the southwest development park near Winnebago.

This project is called the ‘Water Quality Initiative Project’.

The city and Winnebago will be contributing money to the project and altogether the price tag should be over $400,000.
