New Hampton Rotary celebrates 30 years of the ‘Wooden Wonderland’

A humongous jungle gym with spiraling peaks and underbelly hiding spots, spans Mikkelson Park in New Hampton – and is celebrating 30 years of play.

New Hampton’s ‘Wooden Wonderland’, a jungle gym well-known around Northern Iowa for being unique and – wooden, had its 30th birthday on Sunday and was hosted by the New Hampton Rotary Club.

Leading up to the event, Superintendent of New Hampton schools Jay Jurrens posted a video that showcases the inception of the playground.

The video ends with a message. A message to future kids who find fun on the structure:

“Dedicated to our children now and years to come.”
