Charles City Public Library to reopen to public; call ahead to get a ‘browsing time’

The Charles City Public Library is pleased to announce the next stage of re-opening to the public. We will be offering browsing time for patrons to get their own books and movies.   Our temporary hours will be Mondays 10:00- 7:30 and Tuesday through Fridays 10:00-5:00. Patrons may call the day of to reserve a browsing time. Browsing time will be ½ hour time slots. You may reserve a time as an individual or as a family. As time progresses, we will add more night hours and more browsing times until we are back to our normal hours. Computer time slots will continue to be offered as well. Computer time is limited to 1 hour per day. We will continue lobby pick up for patrons. Please call the library or use our on-line catalog to place your requests.

To make re-opening possible and keep you and all staff safe, we will have some restrictions in place.

We request you wear a mask, like you would in other public places.

We require all children under 16 be with a supervising adult.

No more than 35 people will be allowed into the library at a given time.

Any returned materials will be quarantined for 4 days. They will stay on your account for that length of time even though you turned them in. This will not affect your ability to check out more materials.

Our newspaper and sitting area will not be available, to minimize social gatherings. All magazines may be checked out to be enjoyed at home.

No toys will be available in the children’s room.

No fines will be charged on library materials until Oct 31, to give opportunity for patrons to return materials without penalty. Materials will start becoming due again and overdue notices will be sent once our parking lot is finished.

At this time unfortunately we are not able to allow our Zastrow Meeting Room to be reserved for large gatherings.  All public programming is still suspended, but we will have some on-line programming and grab bags for adult and youth programming.  Please watch our Facebook page for current event information.

Please contact the library at 641-257-6319, by email charlescitylibrary@gmail.com, or visit our on-line catalog at https://charlescity.biblionix.com
