Charles City’s long pursuit towards broadband internet connection is again at a standstill – as financing for the project is still yet to fit into place. The expectation was that financing would be set and fiber would be in the ground during the summer – setting up a Fall 2020 where customers could actually sign up for the services.
City Administrator Steve Diers says everything else is set to go, though the financing might not come in until November.
Diers now foresees a Spring of 2021 timeline for fiber in the ground – an almost 9 month postponement from the original expectations.
Diers says the city’s marketing piece is ready to go and they even are inches away from hiring a General Manager for the project – yet financing will need to come before the city can flex their assets again.
