After COVID-19 jump, New Hampton schools move to ‘hybrid’ plan

Students from schools all over North Iowa have tested positive for COVID-19. For instance, Charles City, Osage, and Mason City schools have all cancelled football games due to a player or coach virus case.

This potentially precarious trend continued in New Hampton – as 26 new cases of the virus (according to have been confirmed in a 7 day period (9/1 to 9/8). With some of these cases being students in New Hampton. After this hectic week, New Hampton schools decided this week to revert to ‘hybrid’ style schooling.

This change is only taking place at the high school – where the administration believes the rooms are too small to keep the students 6 feet apart.

The change will have students with last names that start with A-L attending school on Tuesday – then the M-Z students going on Wednesday. This pattern will repeat – as the groupings will alternate days at school and at home for online learning.
