Charles City schools announce 10 new cases of virus; 18 cases over last two days

Charles City Community Schools received notification from Floyd County Public Health on September 7th that 8 students had tested positive for COVID-19 – then on September 8th another 10 individuals were confirmed connected with the district.

The 8 confirmed on September 7th (All of these positive cases are members of the football team):

  • 3 – 9th grade students
  • 1 – 10th grade student
  • 4 -11th grade students

The 10 confirmed on September 8th:

  • 4 Charles City High School students (3 in 9th grade, 1 in 12th grade)
  • 2 Charles City Middle School students (1 in 5th grade, 1 in 7th grade)
  • 1 student involved in high school sports but not taking classes in the high school
  • 1 Charles City High School staff member
  • 2 other staff people not directly involved with a specific campus

The school system assures parents that if their student has been within 6 feet of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 for 15 consecutive minutes or more their customer service team will call your family with more details. If you are not contacted – you are not impacted. There is no evidence the individuals contacted COVID while at school.

Superintendent Mike Fisher describes the schools contact tracing protocols:

To track the virus count at the school, go to the districts dashboard:

The individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 will be allowed to return to school once they are 24 hours with no fever (without the use of fever-reducing medicine) and symptoms are improving and 10 days since symptoms started; if no symptoms, 10 days from the day of the test.
