In New Hampton city news, the city council was presented with a recommendation by the Planning and Zoning Commission during last week’s meeting. The board decided to reject this recommendation and have City Attorney Kevin Kennedy draft an ordinance on accessory building size limits based on the size of the lot
After researching the issue, the Planning and Zoning Commission had recommended: “No detached accessory building or structure located within a residential district in the city limits shall exceed 1,500 square feet in size.”
Councilman Matt Kuhn raised doubts about the city having a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to the lot system in New Hampton. After a couple more members of the council agreed with Kuhn’s skepticism, the board asked Kennedy to draft the ordinance.
