New Hampton schools report record-low absenteeism

New Hampton schools are 100% in person right now. And apparently, the children are loving it. After missing a huge chunk of the spring semester, Superintendent Jay Jurrens is reporting record low absenteeism in the district.

According to the New Hampton Tribune, the 2020-2021 school year is showing the lowest absenteeism that Jay Jurrens has ever seen. They are so low, he almost doesn’t want to jinx it.

The absentee rate has been steady at 1 percent for most of the school year. The schools have even recorded multiple days where the entire district is without an absent student.

Jurrens attributes these low rates to the pandemic’s proclivity to make the students miss the normal things – coming to class, seeing their friends.

However, these numbers don’t necessarily mean these students are present in each building. New Hampton schools hasn’t been counting student as absent as long as they are either quarantining or participating in online schooling.
