Yet another partial road closing is inbound in Charles City as the city and the DOT continue to gear up for their Highway 18 total resurfacing project. According to City Engineer John Fallis, both 4th and 5th Avenue will be down to one-lane traffic come Monday, November 2nd. This is due to an old water main under Highway 18.
Fallis says before the DOT can start their total resurfacing of Highway 18, they wanted to change out the old water main so that they don’t have an old one under new roads.
DOT’s eventual Highway 18 resurfacing project is set to run from Gilbert Street all the way to Superior Lumber in Charles City and is tabbed to start in the spring of 2021. Fallis says that the project won’t completely halt traffic either.
