Introducing the ‘Charles City Cultural Equity Board’; group to hold free Thanksgiving meal drive-thru

This year, the Charles City community has further committed to one ideal: ‘equality’.

For example, the Charles City school district has said one of their major goals for the future is instilling ‘equity and achievement’ into education. ‘Be the Bridge’ – a nationwide and local organization – has held meetings and events to help the community bridge racial divides.

This quest for local equality continues, as this month the ‘Charles City Cultural Equity Board’ was born. Local Erica Chick decided to start the group and asked Emily Kiewel, Director of the Charles City Art Center to be a part of it.

Kiewel says anybody can join the board and says that the group already has a ton of goals – including a city youth center.

To kickstart their activities in the community, the board is holding a free drive-thru Thanksgiving meal this week.

The drive-thru will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Charles City Art Center.

The menu:

Turkey, pulled pork, mac and cheese, potato salad, and pies and cake.
