New Hampton Park Board loses member; to stay at 5 members

Over in New Hampton, the Park Board is getting a bit smaller after last week’s city council meeting.

The council decided in a unanimous vote to reduce the Park Board from 6 to 5 members. This decision comes after board member Steve Murray left the board after announcing he was moving out of the area.

According to the New Hampton Tribune, Murray wrote a resignation letter to be read – the letter said:

“… knowing that the New Hampton parks are much better now than they were when I first started is very gratifying. I know [Rick Kramer], Tara [Hackman] and Lori [Marzoff] will continue to impress the community with your visions.”

Park and Recreation Director Rick Kramer suggested leaving the board at 5 members in order to nullify possible ties in the voting system. To make this point, he cited last summer’s 3-3 tie where half of the board wanted to open the pool and the other half wanted it to remain closed for the year.
