Fareway Stores Inc. donates $2,000 to Charles City nursing and assisted living facilities

Fareway Stores recently announced a second donation in the amount of $200,000 to the Iowa Association of Chambers of Commerce (IACC). The donation provided for up to $2,000 in gift cards to IACC chamber of commerce members in the communities Fareway serves.

The Charles City Area Chamber of Commerce applied for and received $2,000 in $50 gift cards, which were distributed this month to local community nursing and assisted living facilities, Floyd County Medical Center and Comprehensive Systems to benefit their front-line health care employees. Earlier this year, the Chamber and local Fareway store managers distributed a total of $3,000 in gift cards to small businesses in town that were impacted the most by required business shutdowns and restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Charles City Community Development Director Mark Wicks says:

“In talking with our Fareway Store Manager Dave Lohse we agreed this round of gift cards should go to those folks who have been on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19. Many businesses and their employees have suffered during this pandemic, and that’s who the first round of gift cards went to. This time we wanted to say thank you to the people who, at some risk to themselves, work to help others at our local health care facilities.

In 2020, Fareway has provided nearly $500,000 in support to small businesses in partnership with IACC and local chamber of commerce members. Follow the movement on Facebook with #FarewayShopsLocal.
