Nashua, Iowa has a few feathers in its cap – but probably the most well known is the Little Brown Church in the Vale.
And the church is currently undergoing its first set of renovations in decades.
According to Rev. Drew McHolm, the project should take a month to complete. Then in the Spring, more renovations will be done to the monument.
The foyer and interior is tabbed to be renovated – which includes scraping off peeling wallpaper and filling-in cracks. In the Spring, the congregation will be replacing the roof.
The Little Brown Church was built in 1864, and made famous by a song called ‘The Church in the Wildwood’. A song that even country-star Dolly Parton did a rendition of in the 90s.
This church became a hotspot for weddings because of this song and has held 74,000-plus of them since it was built.
The renovations to the church should take upwards of $100,000 to complete. Funds are still being raised by the congregation via their website: www.littlebrownchurch.org.
