The Community Revitalization program in Charles City is actively recruiting new volunteers interested in helping to improve their community.
“Wanting to get more involved? Do you have ideas for making Charles City a better place to live, work and play … or want to be around and help others who do? If so, Community Revitalization would like to talk to you,” said Community Development Director Mark Wicks.
Charles City’s volunteer-driven Main Street Iowa program is looking for people interested in being a part of any of its various volunteer committees and project task forces. Core committees that meet on a regular basis include Design/Downtown Beautification, Business Improvement, Outreach and Promotion. There are also various task forces which focus just on a particular event or project, including Party in the Park, Spookwalk, Great Chili Cook-Off, the Holiday Lighted Parade and more.
“Our volunteers come from all backgrounds, are young and not so young alike and bring different – or no – skill sets to the table. It doesn’t matter,” remarked Wicks. “We are all united in our desire to do something to make our town better.”
Committee and task force meetings have been mostly virtual since the start of the pandemic, so members can participate by videoconference call or by phone from home until its safer for everyone to gather in person again.
