After being shut down last summer due to COVID-19, the Charles City municipal swimming pool will reopen for the 2021 season.
Mayor Dean Andrews says the pool will be back in operation this summer, with an anticipated opening around Memorial Day. He says the park and rec department has been working to get the pool ready.
Andrews adds they hope the patchwork can extend the life of the pool through next summer while a committee researches the possibility of building a new pool. He says the committee has started meeting to assess the features of a new pool in hopes of returning to the “glory days” of swimming in Charles City.
Andrews says the committee will also consider whether a new pool would be built at the current pool location in Lions Club Park or possibly somewhere else.
