New Hampton residents and businesses will gradually be paying more in water, sewer and infrastructure fees in the coming years.
The City Council this week approved increases for fees in all three areas to be incrementally phased in over the next six years starting with fiscal year 2022 which begins July 1st. Mayor Bobby Schwickerath says the rates haven’t increased in several years and have put the city behind in making vital upgrades.
Schwickerath says the city’s water treatment facility is also outdated and needs to be upgraded by 2032, a project that could cost between $16-$18 million. He applauds the citizens for their understanding of the need for the fee increases to improve how the town looks and its functionality.
