Two North Iowa High School Students Named U.S. Presidential Scholars

Two northern Iowa students are among just 161 high school seniors nationally to be honored as part of the 57th class of U.S. Presidential Scholars.

Lucas Ian Pierce of Nashua-Plainfield High School, plus Molly Ann Niewoehner of Sumner-Fredericksburg High School were recognized for their accomplishments in academics, the arts, and career and technical education fields. Niewoehner was also named a U.S. Presidential Scholar in career and technical education.

U.S. Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel Cardona Thursday announced the students being honored and joined President Biden in saluting the outstanding young people for their achievements, service, character and continued pursuit of excellence.

The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selects scholars annually based on their academic success, artistic and technical excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership and demonstrated commitment to high ideals.
