Farming Brothers Get Prison Time for Tax Evasion

Two farming brothers in north central Iowa are headed from the farmhouse to the “big house’ after pleading guilty to tax evasion.

Court records show 61-year-old Scott Stecher and 58-year-old Doug Stecher both admitted that, from 2011 to 2013, they diverted income from their farming operations near Clarion to hide the money from the IRS and avoid paying income taxes.

Doug Stecher hid almost $720,000 resulting in paying $240,000 less in income tax. Scott Stecher diverted almost $450,000 to reduce his income taxes by almost $184,000.

Each brother was sentenced to one month in prison.
