American Legion Poppy Day in New Hampton Friday

It’s Poppy Day in New Hampton today (05.21)

American Legion and Auxiliary members will distribute their symbolic red poppies at various locations throughout town with volunteers stationed at Klunders, Kwik Star East and West, Theisens, and Fareway. Additional volunteers will be canvassing other businesses in the New Hampton area.

Volunteers do not sell poppies, but request that anyone receiving a poppy make a donation to support the American Legion Family veteran outreach programs. One hundred percent of the donations collected directly support the needs of veterans, military and their families.

The red poppy has become a nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn by Americans since World War I to honor those who served and died for our country in all wars. Earlier this week during their regular Charles City City Council meeting, Mayor Dean Andrews proclaimed next Friday, May 28th as Poppy Day in Charles City.
