One of the earliest state titles on day one of the Iowa High School State Track and Field Championships was claimed by a Charles City junior.
The Comets’ Ian Collins cleared the bar at 6 feet 9 inches Thursday morning to claim the crown in the boys Class 3A high jump. Thursday afternoon, his younger sister, Freshman Keely Collins, finished second in the girls 3A high jump.
Charles City Senior Kiki Connell was the state runner-up in the girls 3A 3000 meters while Nashua-Plainfield’s Breanna Hackman took second in the Class 1A shot put. St. Ansgar’s Riley Wiit finished fourth in the boys 1A 3200 meters and Carlee Rochford of New Hampton finished fourth in the girls 2A long jump.
