While there were still several 4th of July-related activities in Charles City last year, due to COVID safety concerns, they were spread out around town with limits on attendance and some conducted via “drive through” formats.
Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mark Wicks says this year’s celebration will resemble it’s more classic format, including the planned return of fireworks to the downtown area.
Wicks says while fireworks and Charles City Municipal Band’s patriotic concert remain on July 4th, many other activities usually slated for July 4th will be bumped up a day because the Fourth falls on Sunday. Events moving to July 3rd include the parade and the Firecracker 5K. Festivities begin Friday, July 2nd and many activities throughout the weekend will again be concentrated in Central Park and downtown Charles City.
