An Arizona man died in a one-vehicle wreck in northeast Iowa early Wednesday morning.
The Iowa State Patrol says 60-year-old Algie Crowder of St. Francis, Arizona, was killed when the 2019 Freightliner truck and trailer he was operating left the roadway for undetermined reasons shortly after 4:30 a.m. The semi then entered a ravine north of the intersection of Volney Road and County Road in Allamakee County, ejecting Crowder and a passenger, 40-year-old Sandra Davis-McDowell, also of St. Francis, Arizona.
Crowder died at the scene and Davis-McDowell was airlifted by helicopter to Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin for treatment of unknown injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
Iowa DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement, the Allamakee and Clayton County Sheriff’s offices, Monona Fire and EMS, and Veterans Memorial Hospital Ambulance assisted at the scene.
