Old Charles City Middle School Gets “TLC”

The old middle school in Charles City is getting some “TLC.”

The Charles City School Board has approved a 5-year lease for space in the 1960s portion of the building on North Grand Avenue to house The Learning Center, a non-profit child care center also known as TLC.  Director Pam Ost says their current facility at 404 North Jackson Street is licensed to host 93 kids at one time and they have over 100 registered. She told the school board at their regular meeting Monday night, moving into the new location allows for significant growth.

Ost adds it’s a monumental development for TLC. Charles City Schools Superintendent Mike Fisher agrees and says the expansion also helps with economic development.”

TLC will pay the school district $1 per year as rent with TLC responsible for all utilities, plus routine maintenance and repairs. They could begin relocation next fall.

TLC has secured almost $900,000 in funding to make the move possible including $100,000 from the City of Charles City over three years and $750,000 from the state through the Iowans Investing in Child Care fund.
