Sen. Grassley Says Ending National Pandemic Unemployment Benefits in Iowa is Right Call

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley says Governor Reynolds’ decision to end the extra $300 per month pandemic payments unemployed Iowans received from the federal government is the right call.

The Governor said the extra unemployment assistance was holding people back from applying for jobs. Grassley tells KCHA/KCZE News he’s seen evidence it was a move that needed to be made.

Grassley says Iowa and about two dozen other states that have ceased allowing residents to receive the extra federal unemployment assistance have seen increased activity in job applications. Still, he says he understands why the extra payment would keep some unemployed Iowans home.

Grassley adds while Republicans did not want the federal pandemic unemployment benefits to go past July, the program will end for everyone September 11th.
