Suspect Identified in Attempted Abduction of North Iowa Teen

Officials in north Iowa continue to investigate Tuesday morning’s attempted abduction of a teenage girl.

The Sumner Police Department says the girl was approached in the parking lot of the Sumner Public Library shortly after 10:30 a.m. and was asked to get into the vehicle of a man she didn’t know.  The teen avoided further danger by entering the library safe and unharmed.

During a Facebook Live session Wednesday night, Chief Chad Koch said thanks to library surveillance video and countless tips from the public, they got the break in the case they needed.

Koch adds they’ve been assisted in their investigation by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI),  Iowa Department of Public Safety Intel and Infusion Center, Bremer County Sheriff’s Office and Dispatch Center, the Tripoli, Des Moines, West Des Moines, Williamsburg and Madrid police departments, Dallas County Dispatch, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa Insurance Fraud Bureau.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Sumner Police Department at 563-578-3242, message them through Facebook or call 911.
