James “Jim” Devereaux, 65, Charles City

James “Jim” Devereaux, 65, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City.

James Edwin Devereaux, the son of Carl and Jean (Phillips) Devereaux, was born on March 28, 1956 in Creston, Iowa. He graduated from Davis County High School in Bloomfield. He then attended Indian Hills Community College and obtained an associate’s degree in horticulture. Jim was united in marriage to Sheila Judy on June 3, 1978 in Bloomfield.

Jim worked for Farmers Feed and Grain in Charles City for the last 8 years. He was a volunteer firefighter for 15 years starting in 1988. Jim enjoyed tinkering with vehicles, especially MG cars. He enjoyed spending his time outdoors golfing and camping. He was a very generous man and was always willing to help out his neighbors and was his daughter’s handyman. Family was very important to him and loved to watch his grandsons play sports.

Living family members include his wife, Sheila Devereaux; daughter, Melissa (Shannon) Devereaux; grandsons: Kaleb, Kade, and Kale; siblings: Bill Devereaux, Glen Devereaux, Nancy Devereaux, Patty Singley, and Georg Copeland; along with many nieces, nephews, and other family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Jean Devereaux; sister, Mary Anderson; and brother-in-law, Nick Copeland.

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
