It’s official. Graduation weekend for Charles City High School seniors will be a week earlier than originally planned in 2022.
The School Board approved the calendar change at Monday’s regular meeting to move graduation from May 29th of Memorial Weekend to May 22nd. Superintendent Mike Fisher said the adjustment should benefit teachers and students.
The last day of classes for Charles City seniors this year was May 26th while several neighboring school districts were already out for all students, including Clarksville, Howard-Winneshiek and Riceville by May 21st.
With next year’s change in graduation date, Charles City seniors’ final day of classes will now be May 17th, 2022. Prior to the vote on the change, school board member Scott Dight asked how that affects the workload of teachers of senior students. Fisher says the teachers will still have plenty on their plate.
The graduation vote passed 4-1 with Dight the lone dissenting vote.
