Remodeling at the Charles City firehouse to make space for American Medical Response (AMR) ambulances is still a work in progress.
An agreement calls for the City and Floyd County to provide AMR with space for a base of operation out of the fire station.
City Administrator Steve Diers says additional changes and work under consideration have extended the duration of the project, now with a target of completion by the end of July.
The three-year agreement between the parties began last year and the city and county are both paying $262,500 each over the course of contract for AMR’s services. AMR will provide the area an advanced life support ambulance with a paramedic and a basic life support ambulance with EMTs available 24/7. AMR will also transports between hospitals for Floyd County Medical Center.
