Two Children Among Injured in One-Vehicle Crash Near Oelwein

Three people including two children suffered serious injuries in a one-vehicle wreck Friday night about one mile west of Oelwein.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened in the 3000 block of Rose Road just before 10:45 p.m. when 36-year-old Melissa Spicer of Oelwein was driving east and lost control of her 2017 Jeep Cherokee Latitude. The vehicle turned sideways in the road, went into the ditch and hit an electrical pole, causing the Jeep to roll before coming to rest in a dry creek bed. The electric pole was snapped in two causing electric wires to be down and power temporarily out.

Spicer and two juvenile passengers were taken by ambulance to MercyOne Hospital in Oelwein with serious injuries. The Oelwein Fire Department also assisted at the scene of the crash which remains under investigation.
