Wednesday’s severe weather, including a thunderstorm and tornado, created some anxious moments at the Floyd County Fair.
The fairgrounds just west of Charles City suffered significant damage when they were hit by a tornado just over two years ago. Fair board member Drew Mitchell says with another twister in the vicinity again this week, they were definitely nervous.
Mitchell, who is also the Director of Emergency Management for Floyd County, says communication in advance from out-of-county sources was helpful in monitoring the threat to the public.
Mitchell says the fairgrounds and the rest of the county were spared major damage from Wednesday’s tornado.
