Crop Duster Crash Near Rudd a False Report

Authorities have determined the possibility of a small plane crash in north Iowa to be a false report.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office says they received a call from a witness reporting a crop duster plane spraying a field that appeared to have crashed near Rudd shortly before noon Thursday. The caller said he saw the plane go towards the ground, followed by a cloud of dust and the plane didn’t come back up.

The sheriff’s office contacted the Charles City and Mitchell airports seeking information on any crop dusters who may have flown out from their facilities.  Midwest Ariel planes had taken off from the Mitchell Airport and said their planes and pilots were accounted for, but did a flyover of the area to be sure.

On the ground, the Rudd Fire Department and Floyd County Emergency Management assisted with checking the area. After all area crop dusting planes were confirmed and accounted for, it was determined to be a false report.
