Boating and Drinking? Get a Designated Operator

With little to no precipitation and temps in the upper 80s to mid-9s0 in the forecast through this Sunday, conditions will be great for boating.

Iowa DNR Conservation Officer for Floyd and Mitchell counties, Jacob Fulk, says having a great time doesn’t mean overindulging in alcoholic beverages, which can also save you money in terms of potential drinking and boating fines.

Fulk says most boat operators know that many drinking and driving laws on land also extend out to lakes, ponds and rivers, but there are notable differences between driving a car and driving a boat.

Fulk adds that mixing alcohol and boating can make things just as dangerous on the water as drinking and driving.
