Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office Issues Safety Statement

In the wake of the discovery of human remains last week about five miles northwest of Osage, the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office has issued a statement letting citizens know the nature trails throughout the county are safe.

A hiker on the Greenbelt Trail near Mitchell discovered the human remains nearby on Monday, July 12th. Authorities say the investigation continues with assistance from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Office of the Iowa State Medical Examiner. Authorities also added that, “law enforcement can say with certainty that it is not Jodi Huisentruit, (the former television news anchor) missing from Mason City since June of 1995.”

In a Facebook post Tuesday, Mitchell County Sheriff Greg Beaver advised patrons that the trails are safe and that they can, “continue to use the trails, hike, bike, horseback ride and enjoy Mitchell County. My office, the deputies, and state and county conservation officers are close by in the event you would need something.”
