Efforts to arrest a Mason City man wanted on six valid warrants included a high-speed chase, but they got their man.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office says 41-year-old Jeremy Mulford is in custody after leading authorities on a pursuit through Mason City reaching speeds of 90 miles per hour and then trying to hide under his bed late Thursday night. The incident began around 11:30 p.m. when a deputy attempted a traffic stop of Mulford’s van, but Mulford sped off and the chase was on until he eventually drove to his residence on 6th Street Southeast in Mason City.
Authorities say Mulford ran into the home and tried to hide from law enforcement under a mattress. Deputies entered the house and arrested Mulford on six Cerro Gordo County warrants for charges including theft, trespassing and possession of burglary tools. He was also wanted on warrants in Worth County for multiple theft and trespassing charges as well as ongoing criminal conduct.
Mulfod can now add eluding and driving under suspension charges to his resume after Thursday night’s events. He was held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail with no bond.
The investigation of Mulford is ongoing and the search of Mulford’s residence could result in additional charges.
The Mason City Police Department and the Iowa State Patrol assisted in the apprehension of Mulford.
