A 12-year-old Iowa boy was killed and a 48-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries following a one-vehicle crash in southern Minnesota late Monday night.
The Minnesota State Patrol says the accident occurred just before 11:30 p.m. on Interstate 90 near milepost 140 in Foster Township, about 25 miles east of Blue Earth. A Chevy Silverado driven by 48-year-old Kyle Backhaus of Des Moines was eastbound on I-90 when the vehicle entered the left ditch, crossed back over both eastbound lanes and rolled into the south ditch.
The name of the boy killed was not released, but the victim was identified as a juvenile from Des Moines. Backhaus was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester for treatment of his injuries.
