Charles City PD Alerts Public on Fake Messenger Correspondence

While the word “scam” wasn’t used, the Charles City Police Department is alerting the public to possible fake correspondence from the department through Facebook messenger.

A post Tuesday on the police Facebook page read, “We have had a couple of people answer ‘us’, the CCPD, on Messenger. We do not send out messages very commonly on Messenger and did not send these out. If you are getting messages from us, do not answer them please. Facebook has been made aware of this issue.”

Within the last two weeks, sheriff’s departments in Bremer, Howard and Worth counties have each alerted residents to possible scams through fake phone calls and emails.
