It was one-and-done for both New Hampton and Waverly-Shell Rock in the Iowa High School State Baseball Tournament.
The 7th seeded Chickasaws lost to 2nd seeded Centerville 10-0 in a Class 2A quarterfinal played in Centerville Tuesday night. The Big Reds scored three runs in the first and added seven more in the second on their way to putting New Hampton away in five innings.
The Chickasaws had a chance to go up early, but left two runners stranded in the first and managed just three hits to close their season at 19-and-16. However, New Hampton made the state tournament for the second time in three years when they knocked off number one ranked Roland-Story in the sub-state title game to advance to state.
Waverly-Shell Rock also managed just three hits and lasted only five innings in their 11-1 loss to Central DeWitt Wednesday morning in Class 3A action in Iowa City. The Go-Hawks finish their season 33-and-8.
Denver also bowed out from the Class 2A field after one game when the Cyclones were hammered by Camanche 18-1 in just four innings Tuesday afternoon.
