Messiah Lutheran Food Pantry Has Surplus of Food

Throughout much of the pandemic, food pantries across Iowa struggled to keep up with the demand of people facing food insecurity brought on by COVID-19-related financial hardships.

That’s not the case now with the Messiah Lutheran Food Pantry in Charles City.  Pastor Victoria Mead says they have a surplus of food thanks to generous donations and they want those in need to take advantage.

On Monday, the pantry received a large donation of fresh sweet corn courtesy of Schwartzrock Implement and a shipment of pork loins from Iowa Select Farms.  With all that food to dispense and handle Pastor Mead says they can use more volunteers.

Mead says the pantry, located at 102 North Main Street, is resuming Wednesday hours of 9 a.m. to noon to supplement their noon to 3 p.m. hours on Fridays. She says they also hope to resume Monday hours soon. She adds they offer curbside pickup and, if needed, delivery can also be arranged.
