Fayette County Man Arrested in Michigan

A north Iowa man wanted for sexually abusing a minor female almost a year ago was arrested last week in Michigan.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office says 29-year-old Scott Czappa sexually abused a young girl in August 2020 when he lived in Elgin. Wednesday, authorities in Michigan arrested Czappa after receiving a tip about where he may be living in Ironwood, Michigan.

Czappa was initially charged with third degree sexual abuse, a class C Felony, but can expect additional charges for being on the run from the law. At the time Czappa first fled authorities last year, it was believed he was driving a Dodge Durango painted to look like a police car.

Czappa was extradited back to Fayette County and is in custody at the county jail on a $10,000 cash bond.
