Charles City Man Accused of Stealing Thousands from His Grandmother

A Charles City man is facing charges he stole over $30,000 from his grandmother.

According to a criminal complaint filed in June, an investigation discovered that between October 2020 and March of this year, 33-year-old Casey Lee Olson made bank and ATM withdrawals and wrote checks from his grandmother’s account totalling around $15,000. He’s also accused of cashing in CDs totalling about $17,000. Olson has been charged with first-degree theft and dependent adult abuse.

Authorities say Olson’s grandmother is a resident of a nursing home and while Olson was her caretaker, he only had the authorization to pay her bills and taxes.

Olson made his initial court appearance in Floyd County Monday.
