Everything is free for tonight’s (08.03) “National Night Out” activities hosted by the Charles City Police Department from 5 to 8:30 p.m. in Central Park.
Community Resource Officer Duane Ollendiek says the campaign’s goal is to promote police-community partnerships through measures that include handing out free school backpacks to kids. He says the backpacks were donated by the Salvation Army and filled with supplies from employees at Zoetis.
Ollendiek says officers will also conduct their giveaway of shoes while supplies last and there’s the arrival of the MercyOne AirMed helicopter at 7 p.m.
Ollendiek adds a free meal including hot dogs, chips, cookie and water will also be provided. He says all items for the event were donated by people and businesses in the Charles City community.
