One Person Killed in North Central Iowa Crash

A Hamilton County woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 Wednesday night.

The Iowa State Patrol says the wreck occurred in Hamilton County in the northbound lane of I-35 near mile marker 141 shortly after 9:30 p.m. A International tow truck driven by 61-year-old Anthony Nessa of Webster City was struck from behind by a Suzuki Grand Vitara driven by 58-year-old James Bergert of Williams. A passenger in Bergert’s vehicle, 51-year-old Joanna Rizzo, was killed in the collision. Bergert suffered minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Hamilton County medical examiner and Williams EMS also assisted at the scene.
