Be Aware of Students Walking, Driving to School

With a new school year for north Iowa schools starting this week, that means students walking and driving to and from school.

Charles City Police Captain Brandon Franke encourages parents to keep pictures and information available just in case a child becomes missing.

Franke also advises parents to scout out the route your child walks to and from school to become familiar with the path they take, but also to make sure their regular sidewalks are available due to road construction. That’s especially true for Charles City students in the Highway 18 area of Lincoln Elementary.

The new school year also comes with more young drivers on the roads, many driving to and from school for the first time.

Franke cautions all motorists for patience with the increased number of cars on the road before and after school and be extra alert for students walking to and from school.
